The situation is instantly recognizable to anyone who has used a rideshare app. It does not need a long explanation of how the service works. That clarity matters in a phone prank: the listener has to understand the problem before they decide whether to stay on the line.
Where the argument goes
The scripted driver says the ride has been sitting under the recipient's name for several minutes. He claims he drove to the pickup and missed other rides. Later he complains about a cancellation fee and says he can see the passenger through a window. The last claim is deliberately overconfident and often becomes the turning point of the joke.
